Some myths about sports

There are many things about sports that we may heard others talking that there are certain rules of to do and not to do list or maybe heard myths. Here are some of the myths that people may heard and are they really true???

Well some information can be trusted as it is based on proof and research while some are just plain myth. So for those sportmen or women to be, please check for the information that you need. If you are not sure, go to a professional doctor or physician for help or double check the information in the net with other websites.

Also check the labels for the ingredients of the sports food as people may buy the food that is not particularly important for the body needs.

Mineral water is the best drink as not only it does not have any extra substance(eg preservatives) but it is also a good source to quench thirst.

Know the limit of your own body as you are the only person that knows your body well and so you have to take care of it.

Since Olympics are for able bodied atheletes why not make a same event but for the handicapped. Thus paralympics was born. Some question come to my mind when this event was created. First, what type of sports are featured in the event. Secondly, will many people wanted to join this event as due to the physical dissability they may not want the world to see.

I was having all these bad remarks question when this event was introduce. Then it make me to surf the net and find out more about it. After reading abou it, many of my questions had been answered.


  • The first question's answer was that not all the games will be the same as in the olympics but some games are improvised due to their physical dissabilities and some new games are created.
  • The second question's answer was that this is event is for those who are the very best in each country to compete with those in other countries. To these atheletes, this is the best chance to be the best in the world and be shown worldwide trough their achievement. What is there to not be proud of because if the lose in there game or event but they still hold the title of being the best in their own country.
To me, paralympics is the best way for handicapped athelete to show what they ara capable of and show the limitless power of the human spirit or the never say die attitute towards life. They have the chance to prove that even when handicapped thay are still active.

Just want to salute these great atheletes for having to step forward into the limelight and dedicating their life to the sports that they like.





Ways and means of improving ones physical

Many people dream of being able to jump high or running for miles but they dont want to exercise. Well, thats is not the way as in order to be able to get what you want in life or other thing you need to have decipline and the drive to get it.

Well, I will be helping people with some tips in improving oneself that is related to sports.


There are many ways to increase stamina and here are some of the easier wyas to do that.

  • Skipping can help to improved stamina. Just start small when getting started and do it daily. When you are comfortable with the number then try increasing the duration for a few weeks.

  • Running on the spot is almost like your normal run but without the distance. Try running on the spot for about 2-3 mins for starters daily and as days past incrased the duration to 5 mins or more.
  • Swimming is another form or increasing stamina. Just swim in any style be it backstroke ot butterfly and make a habit of swimming at least 30mins everyday.

  • Cycling also build stamina as it is like cycling but on wheels. For staters they can ride for about 1 hour and then progressively increased the duration. This goes same for roller blading.

Improving muscle gains are also important as if the muscle are constantly resting and not doing work it will turn flabby. Here are some tips to improve that.

  • Start by taking light meals more often and take the food that benefits the growth of muscles. Create this diet regularly as this can improved the flow of nutrients in the body.

  • Do go to gym more often as to regulate the muscle used and to tone it. Do the compound exercises as it will not concentrate on only 1 or 2 muscle group. (eg squats, bench press.)

  • Do some weight weight training as to improve or enhanced exercised and make the muscle work more even if the repertition is the same

What are alternative sports?? Are they really sports??

There are varies types of alternative sports. Examples of alternative sports

and much much more.

For me a definition of an alternative sports are sports that include a nature elements into it (eg.mountain climbing) or a entire different sports using conventional equiptment like cups for drinking.(eg cup stacking).

Alternative may not sounds interesting to some people for example cup stacking but I can tell u this that not all people can do cup stacking that fast.

This question had been featured in one of a local tv programme called "octo live" and they challenge local basketball national players to compete with them and they admit that cup staking is not easy.




From my point of view many more alternative sports will be created in near future as people are more creative and adventurous in doing activities.




Whether it is alternative sports or plain old sports, I guess both of them have many same qualities examples:

  • Both can make a person mentally and physically fit.
  • Need commitment
  • Both neat years or dedication to be good in what your are doing
  • Be sure that sweat are involve
  • Have fun in what ure are doing is the most important thing.

What do sportspersons normally do.

Well, when they are not doing their sports, they would normally condition their body either by running or weights training.


They would do a number of cycle or raps that will not exert their body.


Mentally they would clear their mind by doing yoga or listening to music.


Then another thing that they will do is to maintain a balanced diet.


They would normally drink plain water and eat food that are good for the body example yogurt, vegetable.


They would also cook the food with lesser oil.


They may even spent time with their family member to outings like a vacation or a just a walk to places like Bukit Timah or Sentosa.


They may also find alternative sports for example rollerblading or cycling just as to keep them fit or preoccupied.


Another activity that helps to maintain the person's fitness without straining their muscle is that swimming. Swimming help to exercise or recuperate those strain muscle but without exerting them.

Why Is It Important to Pick Up A Sport?

To me why I pick up sports is to keep myself fit and to have fun.
Other people may have other opinion about sports as they are much competitive or casual.
What i mean by competitive is bout that they are out to win medals or competition. So thay have to built


  • cooperation among team mates or coaches
  • stamina
  • specific muscle group
  • decipline
  • commitment
  • training(weights are optional)
  • time management

into their choice sports.

For casual sports person, they take the sports lightly for example they would do it twice a week or maybe lesser.

They may just want the sport to move their attention away from the stressful working life or maybe want to spent time with friends or loveones.

Having sports may have it's pros and cons. for example sports can help to stay healthy but too much can make you fall sick or even injured.

So my question is: Are cup stacking and skipping considered sports and why???

Firstly, if the person wants to start a sport he/she would need interest.
This is followed by the love of the game.
Another factor is the benefits of the game and that whether the game is individual or a team event.
Benefits of the game can be mental and physical.
Sports benefits may include
  • exercise
  • coordination
  • perseverance
  • hard work
  • determination
  • raise self-esteem
  • increase confidence
  • strive for excellence
  • to deal with failure or success
  • stress.
    But mainly people took up sports due to health and well-being.
    For those who like contact sports in a team event they may join
  • soccer and much more
    Non-contact sports consists of
  • tchoukball and much more.
    Individual sports may consists of
  • archery and much more.
    All sports needs equiptment so different sports needs appropriate equiptment for example tennis needs tennis racket and tennis ball.
It does not mean that a person that is not good in any sport cant
took up a sport as he/she may get
better if they keep on practicing and dont give up.

So what about those who are disable can they take part in sports???
